Managed to get my hands on the Hitman beta last weekend for the PS4 and spent many more hours in it than I expected. It only features the first two training levels from the game, after all, and you probably could run through them both in an hour. They’re really emphasizing the fun of taking multiple paths to your target in this game, however, and after turning it off I kept thinking back about what other methods I could have tried. I kept booting it up to unlock all the Challenges. It bodes well for the game’s release next month!
The benefits of writing about horror
I feel like the PR folks for horror movies and games have the best time, although I guess it depends on how sadistic they are. I’ve just counted it up, and it’s now been four times that I’ve received strange unmarked packages in the mail that were covered in blood. One was literally leaking blood- for Hostel I was sent a bloody steak that soaked through the box and dripped blood all over my apartment. Always wondered what my landlord thought of that…
Anyway, the latest wonderful surprise package was for the upcoming Layers of Fear and it’s another doozy. This wooden box is full of all sorts of creepy stuff – body parts, mousetraps, children’s artwork- which definitely sets the tone for the game. Gotta love it.
This art all appears in the game, which makes me so happy that it’s now in my home as well…
Three vials contained various non-standard art tools.
Wrapped up in the black package was this lenticular picture, that changes nicely if you turn it side to side.
The Best Gear VR Games: The Apps That Make Virtual Reality Worth It
Had more fun researching this one than just about any article I’ve written in months. The Gear VR is a remarkable little system, and I’ll preach to anyone who comes over my house the implications of VR. This is the future.
“If you want to experience virtual reality the general consensus is that you’re going to have to wait a little while and pay a whole lot. The Oculus Rift is set to release in March for $599 and requires a beast of a computer. The PlayStation VR is coming some undetermined time later this year to your PS4, and while there are no solid details on price it certainly won’t come cheap. But why wait for VR when you can jump in right now?”

Review: Ghostbusters- The Board Game
I had a lot of fun reviewing this game. It’s definitely not geared towards hardcore gamers but it works as a nice introduction to the hobby from anyone interested in it. I still pull it out occasionally for a fast and light game.
Review: Fallout 4
One of the worst things about reviewing games is the rush to get it up when embargo breaks. This is made even harder when you’re not writing for one of the top five gaming websites and get the game a day or two early, or even sometimes on launch day, like Rockstar is notorious for doing. This happened to me years and years ago when Fallout 3 was released, and I was sent it the week of release. What good is it to readers to rush through a game? How does that possibly give you a good impression of how the game really is? In that case I decided to not even try and while my review went up a month late, I’m still proud of it. (My E3 preview is one of the few older pieces I can look back on fondly, as well.)
Fortunately Bethesda got Fallout 4 out to us weeks before release, allowing me to put dozens of hours into it and solidifying it as one of my games of the year for 2015.
Fun fact- despite putting in 150 hours into this game I still have a bunch of stuff to complete. There’s no doubt I’ll go back to soon… just as soon as I finish up The Witcher 3, and Metal Gear Solid V, and…
